Your CORE, the Missing Link for Your Body

Everyone has heard about your "CORE", but what really consists of your "CORE"? Most think it involves just your abdominals. Lets correct, your "CORE" consists of your whole torso, from the tops of your shoulders to the bottom of your hips, on the front, sides, & back of your body. When engaging in any type of exercise start thinking about how the torso is involved.

For example, stand straight, feet hip-width apart, shoulders back and down, draw your abs in and up. The “up” part helps recruit the transverse abdominals (TA). The TA creates a wide belt feeling around the lower core, wrapping around the front of the torso to the back, creating a feeling of a shield pulling up from the lower part of the abdominals wrapping around connecting the lower back, engaging the muscles along your lower spine. Thus creating more space between the lumber vertebras and alleviating pain and pressure of the lowerback, as well as creating length.

Keeping the feeling of the TA engaged at all times gives the body more stability and support. When running keep the TA engaged and think of running with the CORE. Giving the body more CORE strength making running a little easier. When lifting weights keep in-mind what the CORE and especially the TA are doing. For example, perform a shoulder press; standing straight feet hip-width apart, slightly tuck the tailbone under so as to keep stress from entering the low back, engage the TA, shoulders down. As the arm starts to press the weight up and over the head, recruit the TA deeper, feel the shoulder blade slide down, extend the arm straight over head, and then slowly lower, repeat. As the body learns to recruit the deeper muscles (i.e. the TA), the amount of weight able to lift may need to be lowered until the deeper stabilizers become stronger, just like any other muscle, although more important.

True North Snacks

I found True North Snacks at Target, & have been pleasantly surprised to enjoy both the taste & the ingredient list. Although I would prefer less added sugar as it's a little high, overall they are great healthy snacks. As with everything you eat always check out what the serving size is. Example, the True North Almond Clusters have 6 servings in their 5 1/2 oz. bag. Meaning you can eat 5, I repeat only 5 little almond clusters, equalling 170 calories. So just be sure you aren't distracted & eating out of the bag, or before you know it you will have eaten all 6 servings! They are quit sweet & could be considered your "dessert"-Enjoy

Organic Raw Kombucha & Synergy

Kombucha (pronounced kom-BOO-cha) & Synergy, "Living Food for the Living Body". Made of kombucha & real fruit juices. Kombucha elixir or tea as it is know by either, helps your body restore Balance & Vitality, see below for a long list. I recommend drinking these on a regular basis. You can drink one everyday if you like or just a few a week. The more frequent the better. Think of these as an alternative to drink things such as sodas, juices, or anything sweet, besides being very healthy & beneficial to your body they have now added sugars or chemicals. Although they have a slightly sweet taste, they are very vinegary. If the taste is too much for you try adding to your daily tea &/or placing on ice. You can keep an open bottle in your fridge for up to 3 days, but why risk wasting, so just drink it all the day you open it :)
If you prefer a sweeter taste try the grape or guava synergy. My favorite is the Muli-Green, which includes the raw kambucha, klamath mountain blue-green algae, spirulina, & chlorella. Drinking these regularly will make you feel wonderful (& keep you regular)...Enjoy

Organic Raw Kombucha helps support:
Digestion
Metabolism
Immune System
Appetite Control
Weight Control
Liver function
Body Alkalinity
Anti-Aging
Cell Integrity
Healthy Skin & Hair

What Foods You Should Buy Organic

With a list of toxins, pesticides, chemicals, etc... showing up everywhere in our daily life, the food we eat, the air we breathe, the products we use, & on & on. There are small things we can do to help decrease our exposure. One thing is buying organic. I know it's a bit more pricey so here I have attached a list, one you can print out & carry with you to the grocery store, listing the fruits & veggies you should buy organic vs. the ones you can save some $ on.
I always tell my clients I would rather see them eating lots of veggies & fruits (although not to be overdone, the fruit I mean, they do contain lots of sugar) even if it means they can't afford organic. However if your budget allows, follow this list to help reduce your intake of toxins. These foods contain higher amounts of pesticides, as a general rule, if you are eating the skin "buy organic"

Buy Organic:
Celery
Peaches
Strawberries
Apples
Blueberries
Nectarines
Bell Peppers
Spinach
Kale
Cherries
Potatoes
Grapes (imported)

LARABAR - "The Original Fruit & Nut Bar"

Larabar, my favorite "on-the-go" snack, "in-a-pinch" quick breakfast, or anytime I just want something yummy yet very healthy to eat. Doesn't get more basic than larabar. All of the bars are made of dates (gives them their sweet taste) along with nuts, & other fruity flavors such as lemon, lime, cherry, & the list goes on & on. Give them a try you will not be disappointed.

My Favorites: Peanut Butter, Cherry, Lemon, & my list continues to grow as I try new ones & they develop new flavors.
